A Staircase Is Worth a Thousand Words

Tucked away in a residential corner of London, a spiralling staircase breathes a new life into an old home. Known as Marie’s Wardrobe, the stairs are perforated by a screen of timber dowels, creating a breezy balustrade that allows for the passage of both air and light. Upon the bannister, slight engravings spell out the dialogue between the owner of the 20th-Century home and the team at Tsuruta Architects, gently parlaying the history of the house and the hours spent crafting the staircase.
