This two-day workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to contemporary information design, data visualization, and the creation of infographics that are sophisticated, visually engaging, and easy to understand. The course structure emphasizes practicing different aspects of the data-visualization process in a rich, interactive environment. Hands-on projects will challenge each participant to develop new skills as well as fuel their creativity.

In addition to principles of graphing and data management, the course will focus on information design principles, the use of alternative forms, and how to add personality to a visualization. The class will offer an overview of essential tools and strategies for creating engaging and animated interactive graphics for mobile devices and the web.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:
-Understand the role of infographics, data visualization, and information design in bringing clarity and efficiency to any key internal and external communications
-Identify opportunities for infographics in texts and written reports
-Efficiently decide how to present different types of data and visual messages
-Create effective storyboards and scripts for interactive graphics
-Use the latest professional tools to create information graphics for print and digital media, as well as identify available resources to further expand your skill set

The curriculum includes design theory lessons supplemented by practical exercises.

Required: Laptop computer. Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Excel is recommended, but not required.
