My-House by Austin Maynard Architects

Striking a Work-Life Balance
Posted by Gestalten—07/2017

An architect's job is never easy: The long hours spent chasing deadlines and hoping to meet clients’ demands breed a culture of sleep depravation, and even experienced practitioners quickly burn out. Noticing a trend in the work-life balance, Austin Maynard took matters into his own hands—and his own home. His home in Melbourne is his office. Indeed, to better his health and the health of his family, he upgraded their space that floods with the rich Australian sunshine, ensuring everyone gets their daily dose of Vitamin D. With around a million Australian adults suffering from depression each year, Maynard’s leading a much needed movement toward self-care from when we wake up until we fall asleep at night.
